Decorating for an event can take a good chunk of the budget if some careful planning and frugal shopping are not done. There are so many items to choose from, it’s easy to get carried away with the buying of them. However, by just focusing on some of the less expensive and most common decorations, there is a lot that can be done with them.
There is so much that can be done with balloons to make an elegant display. Some suggestions are as follows:
- Balloon flowers. When blowing up the balloons, stop adding air to them when they have reached an oval shape instead of round. The oval shape looks like a flower petal. Six of these joined together in the form of a flower can be mounted against walls with a piece of two-way tape. The centre of the flower can be made with a collection of small balloons where just a little bit of air has been added to them. For stems, streamers can be used, so they allow the flower balloon to float up to any desired distance. The end of the streamer can be weighted down with some small but heavy object.
- Another great idea is to take clear balloons and fill them with different coloured glittery pieces of confetti. These look really unique when blown up and could be burst at the highlight of the event to release the confetti or glitter.
All it takes to turn plain streamers into something spectacular is some creativity. Here is a suggestion.
- A simple white paper tablecloth can be made to look really colourful and impressive. All it takes is laying several strips of wide one colour streamers lengthwise on the cloth. Then going back and weaving smaller pieces across these strips, so it creates a checkerboard effect.
These are just a few very inexpensive suggestions for event organisers.
